Manifesto

The world doesn’t make much sense, but somehow we are accustomed to the absurdity presented to us in everyday life. There are big ones, like violence, corruption, pollution; there are also small things, like bad commercials, confusing traffic signs, or company policies that don’t make sense.

Usually we bitch about them, big time. In a way they are our indispensable social lubricant, easing awkward social interactions in elevators or doorways. After all, talking about commonly recognized problems is more sophisticated than invoking comments about the weather.

But sometimes, it’s more than just bitching: we may actually have something interesting to say. This is what r3think is about. Going beyond bitching.

All too often we are stuck at talking about the problems at a superficial level as propagated by mainstream media or conventional wisdom. I will try to dig deeper, talk about what works and what doesn’t, look at things from a different perspective, imagine how I would have done differently, being unnecessarily radical at times, or even play devil’s advocate just for the heck of it.

Lastly, why “r3think”? It’s quite simple. I enjoy the mental exercise of deconstructing ideas and thinking differently, so “r3think” fits quite nicely. It’s “rethink” with a twist! (and also because “rethink” was taken already..)

My mini-bio

My name is Scott. A twenty-something Taiwanese Canadian living in Vancouver. Interested in social and environmental issues since little but didn’t do much except switching to CFL, recycling, busing, and nagging. Recently found his place in marketing (not for the dark side), and likes anything connected to a series of tubes (aka. internet). Determined to replace cynicism and, for the lack of a better word, bitching, with pragmatism and action.
